How-to improve productivity.

I think that I break pretty much every rule in the book when it comes to procrastination. I start thinking of dancing, wanting to visit beaches at midnight, dressing up for no reason, making dresses, flying to places like Wagga or Perth, etc. One method of procrastination I’ve heard about though is sitting and doing absolutely nothing. Just staring, not even thinking…. Safe to say, I don’t indulge there.

Anyway, let’s just say that procrastination is like a disease that ails us all. It’s programmed into our genes and in the new age of Twitter, Facebook, MSN and public transport.. there is no end to the number of things we could waste our time on – don’t get me started on Wikipedia! Being young and useless is a tough battle with time.

Procrastination might not be so natural as we see it to be either, it could be the result of tiredness from unhealthy habits, or it could just be fear of starting something which seems daunting. One more thing it could be is the result of severe underestimation of the time it might take to complete something. I’m guilty of all three!

Ways to improve this though, could be;

Sleeping better: Finding an 8 hour slot that can be consistently used for sleeping. I recommend sleeping during the night, but that may not work for everyone. Either way, keep it to a routine of sorts. It stops lethargy from getting to you. It’s also known that a lack of sleep for prolonged amounts of time leads to unhappiness in general. So be happy, sleep on routine.

Sigh.. How familiar is this?
Sigh.. How familiar is this?

So if you’re having some relationship problems, extreme pms or stressing out lately, the answer might be as simple as you’re not getting enough sleep. Ergo, before you break up with someone, rage out and bomb Iraq or commit suicide just promise me you’ll try to sleep better first. I know for one, I’m scared of that silence in the time it takes me to fall asleep – I guess my remedy is in realising that I do need to think about what bothers me instead of ignoring it and dragging myself through the muddy waters of procrastination. Attack the source, don’t look for quick fixes because they can become addictive and before you know it you’re 76 and have prostate problems.

Sleep is also known to make you more alert and able to absorb information more efficiently. So to maximise your study time or lecture time, SLEEP! Finally, for all those looking to lose weight – sleep helps there too ;) Reduce your stress,  your risk of cancer, diabeties and inflammation, improve your memory and keep your heart healthy with 5 simple letters. I need to take my own advice but it seems like something so simple really helps take you a long way. Why purposely sabotage yourself, you know?

Meditating: And I don’t mean any of that “ohm” stuff, unless that really floats your boat. I mean taking some time in the morning before you wake up to breathe and think about what you need to do. And perhaps before you sleep, think and let yourself absorb what has happened. There’s no point keeping thoughts bottled up as they also lead to procrastination or worse – mass murder shoot outs in America.

If you really feel you have too much on your mind, writing things out really helps because then it seems as though it’s more managable and looks as though it’s contained instead of just floating around in your head!

Be realistic: When you decide to do something, go a tiny bit overboard but don’t assume you’re going to assasinate Bin Ladin if you’re still sitting around in Australia and cannot afford the taxi to the airport let alone the plane ticket to wherever he is. Make a list of things to do today, and tomorrow, but leave it at that..

How realistic does that spider look!!

Lastly, Get the fuck off WordPress: … :P

On writing essays.

One of the main reasions I decided to pick Engineering as one of my degrees is because I hate writing essays! In fact, even writing a coherent blog is a little above me and my structure is all messed up most of the time.

The dilemma of expression in an institutionalised medium.

The dilemma of expression in an institutionalised medium.

And then, the lure of Arts was too much for me to resist and I succumbed to temptation and picked up Political Economy.. I actually started off doing French, as one does, but then decided that TAFE can facilitate the same education at a much lower fraction of the cost. When I get around to signing up for it, I’ll let you know.

But fuck essays!! Seriously!!! Below are the uninspiring questions of which I have the freedom to choose from. Some freedom.

1. What characteristics defined the global economy that ended in 1914 ?

2. What conditions in the 1920s and 1930s prevented the revival of a global economy as existed before 1914 ?

3. How successfully did the Australian economy function within the global environment between the two World Wars ?

4. What were the problems that authorities in the victorious economies thought might emerge throughout the 1940s, and what were the solutions that they devised ?

5. What and why was Post-War Reconstruction in Australia ?

6. What were some of the conditions that led to powerful cycles of international growth and recession in the 1970s and 1980s ?

I haven’t opened my textbook all semester and have only been to two lectures so far where I spent them talking to people on MSN and emailing to get jobs done (the Pod).

I’ve decided to be more deligent than normal as I do have some goals that I really want to accomplish/put myself in the best position to get them happening. Hmm, I’ll write a quick “How-to improve” for myself hahaha…although I am wasting a bit of time now at least I’m not on MSN or Gtalk or ..yeah.. excuses. Well I will write the how-to blog and then start working on it ASAP!
